A list of horses that look ‘live’ and solid ready to win prospects, at tracks across North America. Horses are considered playable for win only at odds of 3-1 or better, and 5-1, for win-place. Each horse is playable a maximum of three times.
January 1 (Calder)
NERVOUS MARVIN
Jock seemed to move too soon with this fellow who looked to be home free, only to be collared near the wire, and finished second. Maybe with a more patient ride.
(Fair Grounds)
CAT AT PLAY
Looked to have a big shot in turf sprint, only the Assistant starters seemed to get her a little upset, to the point that she eventually broke through the starting gate. Filly looks to have some talent on the green.
LEMON DROP MAGIC
Was making the all-important third start of the layoff, was checked during the race and seemed to lose all chance, but did finish up strong to finish fourth.
(Santa Anita)
WARRENS ROYAL LADY
First time starter was left at the gate in 5-1/2 furlong dash but was literally flying in the stretch to finish second. With a better start next out; this girl looks to have a good future!
January 9 (Santa Anita)
MY LAST TYCOON
Debuted with seldom-used apprentice in the irons, and off a series of good works. Was pretty cold on the board and raced wide in turf sprint. Could be a longshot special next time out.
SPOT THE DIPLOMAT
Looked to have a big shot, only to lose all chance in the stretch when he was blocked. Did get free late but it was too late. With a smoother trip next time!
(Tampa Bay Downs)
FORESTRY TYPE
Made first start with first lasix announced and raced wide throughout which really wasn’t the place to be this day. Still raced on to finish second and shouldn’t be a Maiden for very long.
January 14 (Gulfstream Park)
ASHTONOFFUN
This guy was making his first start since November after transplanting from the Chicago circuit, and looked to be a horse in need of a start. Follow him along!
(Santa Anita)
DREAMALONG
Finished second in a Mile turfer after altering course during the stretch. Has the look of a horse that wants to stretch out a bit more on the grass.
MISS SEAMLESS
Here’s another that looks like she needs to stretch out to show her best. And she needs to be a little more alert out of the gate.
January 16 (Aqueduct)
SILENT VALOR
Colt from high profile barn was making first start in a year, and looked to be taking a big class edge over the field. Sat a good stalking trip, however when the ‘jock’ said go, this horse had nothing left in the tank. Raced like a short horse but shouldn’t take long to round into shape.
(Gulfstream Park)
GUYS REWARD
Showed up this day in a minor stakes event on the grass and was sitting in a good striking position in a tightly bunched field. Jockey looked to stand up a bit during the stretch in this colt’s first start since November. Wasn’t beaten all that much and looks to have a future on the ‘green stuff’.
SCOLARA
Classy mare settled at the back of the pack in Turf Stakes, problem was she couldn’t get off the rail until deep stretch. Did finish with some run and shouldn’t be held off too much longer.
