A list of horses that look ‘live’ and solid ready to win prospects, at tracks across North America. Horses are considered playable for win only at odds of 3-1 or better, and 5-1, for win-place. Each horse is playable a maximum of three times.
December 12 (Tampa Bay)
DOCTOR CAL
Looked to be a short horse in his first start since October. Raced prominently tracking the early speed only to quit in midstretch. This guy will be dangerous if he can ‘string’ a few races together.
RYVIT
Making first start since October, raced wide throughout after breaking from an outside slot at a ‘turf miler’. Didn’t quite that much and looks to have a future on the ‘green stuff’.
December 19 (Hollywood Park)
OAKDELL ROAD
Lightly raced gelding looked to have a shot in his second lifetime start, despite being cold on the board, but got shuffled at the start and seemed to lose all interest. Next start will be his 3rd off the layoff so this guy could be your LONGSHOT SPECIAL!
RHETORICALLY
Turfer steadied sharply just after the start and virtually lost all chance. Did close belatedly for fifth but he is a better horse than that with a cleaner trip.
STREET HAVEN
This well-bred guy debuted and was absolutely cold on the board, despite several solid works showing. Raced evenly, but don’t give up on him yet, as barn is known to be better second time out!
TIMBAVATI
First time starter had an eventful first start as he was steadied early, then blocked at the quarter pole. Still finished with some ‘gusto’ for fourth money.
December 26 (Santa Anita Park)
AD INFINITUM
Two-year-old Storm Cat colt debuted in a competitive Maiden Special off a series of decent works, only to finish 7th. Well-bred colt should improve next start out especially if you see him on turf.
JOIN IN THE DANCE
Was steadied early in Grade I Malibu, then again later in the race, in first start since last seen in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Follow this guy, especially if he drops into an Allowance affair.
PINKERELLA
This filly was on a previous list of ours, and went from an impressive Allowance score to Grade I La Brea Stakes. Was three and four wide throughout then steadied into the stretch and finished 8th. This girl is better than that finish!
December 27 (Fair Grounds)
EAGLE HALL
Speightstown filly debuted off some decent works, only to bump a rival at the ‘break’ and lose all chance. This filly should improve next time out for a trainer known for getting them ready second time out.
(Santa Anita Park)
DO WHAT U DARE
Colt was making his second lifetime start and a strong bid into the stretch when he was checked and finished fourth. Was still less than a length out of the win, and next time out will be the third off the layoff angle.
GUILTBYASSOCIATION
Raced wide throughout mile turfer in a race that he looked to have a big shot. Watch next time-3rd off the layoff!
PAYMENT APPROVED
Colt had the misfortune to be on the front end of a rapid pace (55.4 for the five furlongs), where one half of the uncoupled Baffert entry ran him into the ground, setting it up for the other half. With the right field this guy can score!
(Tampa Bay)
BLIND RIVER FOX
Looked to have a big win chance in 5-furlong turfer, in first start since September, however he jumped a path early on, almost unseating his rider. With a little bit better luck, this guy can win.
TITANIC WIN
Was in same event as the one above, only this guy was left at the gate, closing well in the abbreviated event.
